Repose Gray (SW-7015) is a popular Sherwin Williams color that I have used several times in my interior painting projects. I painted everything from the stairs to the kitchen to living rooms and bedrooms with this color. Repose Gray is a warmer gray with a hint of blue and a very small hint of purple – but don’t worry, the paint won’t turn the walls purple.

Light Reflectance Value (LRV) refers to the amount of light reflected by a paint. The higher the number, the better the color will be visible. With a slightly higher LRV of 58, Repose Gray looks lighter and grayer in a bright room, especially if a satin finish is used to reflect more light. In darker rooms and in rooms with shadowy corners, the color appears blue. My customer said he once thought the color was a bit green. I don’t see any green in this color at all, but it should have a hint of green.
Repose Gray is more of a greige (mix of beige and gray) than a ‘true grey’, with hints of other colors appearing in different lighting conditions. It’s a warmer gray. That’s exactly why I came across it! All the other grays I’ve tried look like baby blue in our kitchen, but this paint color is warm enough to make it look medium gray rather than cool.
If you want to minimize the beige undertone to a cleaner gray, I’d insist on keeping it in the light areas, as the beige (and slightly green tone) really pops in the darker areas. Not that I don’t like it, I actually really like that this gray is not cold.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but absolutely nothing is truly gray. All grays have some undertone – whether it’s brown, blue, purple or grey. Of course, some grays are closer to a neutral, “true” gray than others.
Repose Gray is technically a beige/taupe shade with a hint of green. Beige adds warmth, and thanks to gray tones, it can be slightly pink or purple. In darker rooms or especially in shady corners, it can have a slight hint of green.

Repose Gray looks great in any exposure! In darker rooms, however, this green underpainting comes to the fore. To compensate, I started lightening the color by 50% and ended up with a PERFECT paint color! The lighter color has less visible green undertones and really works in any room!
