Sea Salt Coordinating Colors

Remember the beautiful blue and green waters of the ocean. The muted water color mixed with cool gray tones with a touch of the warmth of the sand and sun is not too far off from Sherwin Williams’ sea salt color.

Not only is this paint color absolutely gorgeous, but it’s also one of the most popular colors for the home. It’s one of those blue-greens that always makes me stop scrolling and scan the room. Working beautifully with whites, grays and navy blues, sea salt brings a soft pop of color to any room.

Sherwin Williams Sea Salt is predominantly green with blue and gray undertones. Like many other colors, sea salt is a chameleon color, meaning it will look different in every room and in every lighting environment, as shown by the different shades.

For example, the green hue is highlighted when sea salt is in a room with warm light bulbs. However, in a room with diffused, filtered light, the color may be more green/blue or even blue.

When sea salt is in a brightly lit room, the color can wash out. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it does mean that the color becomes very bright and subtle, which is important to know if you’re looking for a bold, moody shade.

Of course, the color changes when the lights go out or when the sun goes down. Isn’t it fun to paint? Yes!!

For this reason, I always recommend testing a sample in your home before painting an entire room! I like to paint a poster or two in a patterned color and hang them on different walls in the room at different times of the day to see how the light plays with the color.

When choosing a new paint color, you need to test the right paint color on your home first!

How To Pick Paint Colors

The easiest and fastest way to do this is with Samplize! Now I use them exclusively for color swatches. No mess, no leftover paint can samples. Plus, these mess-free, peel-and-stick rectangles made from real paint are easy to move around the room and easy to store for future use.

A word to the wise: Don’t confuse Sherwin Williams Sea Salt Paint with Benjamin Moore Sea Salt Paint. They are very different and you will be disappointed if you decide on one and end up with a few cans of the other.

The light reflectance value (LRV) is the amount of visible light that a paint color reflects or absorbs. When it comes to LRV, the higher the number, the more light it reflects than it absorbs. So where does sea salt fall on the scale?

And the color stripe is followed by a slightly darker shade called Comfort Grey. Then there are the colors Oyster Bay, Acacia Haze, Retreat, Pewter Green and Ripe Olive. Many of these beautiful greens are popular house paint colors!

The Best White Paint Colors

Sea salt is definitely a cool color with some warmth in its tones. As a cool color, it will make the room feel calm, bright and spacious, so it works well almost anywhere you want to relax.

Fortunately, this cool, calming color pairs beautifully with warm neutrals like taupes and beiges. I’ve used it twice in the next room with Revere Pewter (Benjamin Moore) and they work so well together!

If you’re looking for a complementary color with this shade, you have several popular options from Sherwin Williams, including:

Neutral Paint Colors: Sherwin Williams Sea Salt

Ready to see some examples of sea salt? I have divided them by different rooms of the house so you can see how the shadow looks in different spaces and lighting.

The kitchen is always my favorite place to start. I love sea salt in the kitchen, so much so that this is the shade I chose for my previous kitchen after much debate over which color to choose.

Also, this is a great example of the different shades that sea salt can give in different lighting. In my kitchen, the color looks blue-grey as you can see below.

However, in my eat-in kitchen, the sea salt looks more green on the right wall and a light gray on the left. It just depends on the time of day.

Sherwin Williams Sea Salt: A Complete Color Review

I love how the sea salt came out together in the kitchen, it’s for mom. Add the perfect shade of neutral blue-green to your room. The cabinets, by the way, are Sherwin Williams Dover Gray – they look great together!

Sea salt is practically made to show off in the bathroom. It adds a clean, watery vibe to the space, which is perfect for an area around the tub, like this gorgeous bathroom from Studio McGee.

If you are looking for a green color to live in your living room, this could be it! After seeing this beautiful sand and sisal living room, I have this color on my short list if I ever paint our living room again.

If you’re not sure where to add this fun color, try giving your home a lot of curb appeal by using it in your front door. You can paint just the outside or do both sides like this beautiful home by Bria Hammel Interiors.

Neutral Whole House Paint Color Scheme

My back porch got a makeover with just white trim and sea salt on the roof, which here in the south is called a blue porch roof. It’s such a soft color that it’s hard to spot on the outside of the house, but it’s the perfect amount of soft blue-green without overwhelming the space!

You can use a true white like Pure White or an off white like Simply White. Both would pair very well with sea salt.

Use sea salt when you want a color that acts as a neutral. It is ideal for small or large spaces because it is a very versatile and flexible paint color.

It’s a soft, muted blue-green color that can look more blue or green (or gray) depending on the lighting and orientation of your room.

Sherwin Williams Sea Salt: Color Spotlight

When I finally painted my first kitchen cabinets white, the original wall color was too dark for me. The obvious choice would be something similar to Stratton Blue, but lighter. Palladian Blue (BM) fits the bill! It’s two shades lighter than Stratton Blue and I just knew it would be perfect.

If I did things the old-fashioned way, I would go to the store and buy paint and paint the kitchen. But that would still be wrong. And I would live there, even though I didn’t like it 100%. It’s not a big deal, but why be a little outside when you can be in space!?

When I see a paint color on a wall, I like to try at least 2 colors, but 3-4 colors is even better. I was sure Palladian Blue was the color I wanted, but on a whim I also got a SW Sea Salt pattern.

This was the start of a beautiful relationship with Sherwin Williams Sea Salt, and since then I have painted many rooms and even ceilings this beautiful color!

Once again, what seemed like a pointless exercise (sampling on the walls) saved me from choosing the wrong color. And sometimes it just confirms what I already knew. But I’d rather be 100% sure than paint half the room and wish I could change it.

This chameleon color is absolutely stunning in most rooms and could be the color you’re looking for if you want to be bold but keep it airy and neutral. It’s also great for bringing a coastal vibe, but doesn’t scream ‘beach house’.

Sherwin Williams Sea Salt looks great wherever it ends up. Have I convinced you to try this beautiful color? It’s been a while since I did a color spotlight, and today I wanted to talk about one of the most popular colors of all time: Sherwin Williams Sea Salt. I know most of you already know and love this color, but I wanted it
