Hello friends! Thank you so much for showing so much love behind the scenes. The response was amazing and we are very happy with our new place…well, we even had a very cold and unseasonable heatwave before it arrived in our area and the temperature rose above 106 degrees in a few weeks. It will not be possible there. Needless to say, I can’t wait until it’s over so we can spend more time together. As it’s been getting warmer lately, we’re starting to feel the heat before the outdoor space is over for one of the biggest projects of all decks: patio decorating. Luckily, I was able to do it before the real troublemakers got here. Today I’m sharing the process of how I tackled that project.
Sherwin Williams Superdeck Solid Colors
My main goal for our outdoor space was to make it feel like an extension of our indoor space. I wanted to connect the lines between the interior and exterior and I knew that the design of the floor would play a major role in the final result. It’s as good as natural redwood, I didn’t want it to look or feel like natural wood. I love the warm color of the wood on the inside of our house and was hoping to replicate it on the outside as well.
Sherwin Williams To Launch Comprehensive Deck System
Because we use redwood, we had to wait several months after construction before applying a coat or sealant. This allows the wood and oil to dry well, so it absorbs dirt better and gives a nice color. Construction took place in February and we let it dry for 5 months before I painted it in July. If you’re working with wood like pine or Douglas fir, you won’t have to wait as long (if at all) before painting. Once I had a game plan to tackle the project, I placed an order with Sherwin-Williams to remove the dirt and furniture.
I used a series of brushes, rollers, metal trays, spray pumps and Sherwin-Williams Superdeck cleaner and paint remover to finish the project.
As with any painting project, the best results start with a clean and well-planned design. I started by cleaning and removing everything from the floor. Then I cleaned it thoroughly. I used Super Deck Revive Deck and Siding Briner to clean and rinse. This formula is intended for heavy use on fresh or untreated cedar, redwood or pressure treated.
I got help with this part of the project because you have to make sure that the product is on the tree during the application. Naomi and I worked in small sections to wipe down the area and apply the Super Deck Revive spray.
Lowest Effort Deck Refinish? Do I Have To Strip? Solid Stain Or Paint?
After applying, he used a poly-bristle brush to clean the area. Then let it sit for 10 minutes and wash it off with high heat.
Once we had the kitchen, things moved quickly. Once all the surfaces are cleaned, let it dry overnight. The next morning, the wood looked fresh, fresh and alive…new again!
With the floor washed and ready to paint, I took the mop one more time and put tape over the roof where the porch meets to protect the paint from behind.
Now it was time to paint. I chose Superdeck External Waterborne Formula in Semi-Hard Paint Stain. When choosing a roof deck, you should consider maintenance and when you need to renew it. A good rule of thumb is: the darker or more opaque, the less maintenance required. A clear and concise logo requires frequent maintenance and revision, while a strong or complex piece may take a long time to reapply. SuperDeck is great because you can install it even on wet decks.
Deck Staining Omaha
The superdeck brand is available in many options and I chose Chestnut SW 3524. I wanted a dark, rich color and the color was perfect when I tried to switch colors a few months ago. Just to make sure, I looked at a few places.
Now listen my friends…your daughter is scared to do that first brainstorm. How scary. We have been saving for a long time to build a deck and finally all I wanted was to paint it. This was the project that made me believe in my vision. I started rolling on the stage with a short hair roller and then used a 6 inch brush to gently curl it to create a smoother movement. Always install in the direction of the grain.
There was a bit of learning curve to work with the stain as it was different from other colors I’ve used in the past. Use it as a paint and let it sit on the wood for a few minutes before rolling/washing the product without removing the paint. It took me a while to figure it out, but once I did, it was easy going. I was also struggling with the heat so I had to go quickly. After the first day I realized that I had decided to use only dirt and brushes, so I took out some other watercolors and used them during the project.
Next time I have a crazy paint idea, please save me from yourself! Like I said, this took forever!!! I had no idea how big the floor was until it was dirty. Instructions. plate in plate. It’s big and took longer than I expected because of the size. Also, I can only work for a short time in the morning and then later in the evening when the outside temperature is below 90 degrees. If the weather is not too hot or too cold, I suggest taking the painting project online or in the spring…just make sure there is no rain. And don’t even get me to wash between them. Single. Plate.
Deck And Fence Renewal Systems
It took a few days, but I finally finished the first chapter. I really wanted to get better results. Little by little my vision began to come together.
The best thing about SuperDeck Stain in its water-based form is that it dries quickly and can be painted over quickly. After 4 hours you can apply more coats and for the second half you want to apply two light coats. Depending on the size of your project, this product allows you to complete it in one day! After applying the second coat, I let it dry overnight before applying everything back.
After 48 hours I did a water test to see how moisture resistant the stain was and it was amazing to see a bead of water on my feet.
I think a lot of people are surprised when I say that I painted the floor because we use redwood in construction and often people want to leave redwood in their designs. It is a very good wood that has all kinds of decay and natural/elemental resistance. If left untreated, it will change during hot weather. Honestly, it was great, but when we first built it, I knew I was going to screw it up. I am very happy with the end result. It looks great and really provides a place to relax.
Staining The Deck
If you are thinking about taking on a painting project, I highly recommend Sherwin-Williams SuperDeck products. They also come in an oil-based formula, which I’ll probably try next time I need to pick a floor. I’m one of those geeks who love to work with oil based products because I love that you have a little more control when applying. Dries a little slower than water-based ones (which can be bad for most people), but gives you a little wiggle room if you want to take your time and get the application right.
You can also find a lot of information, including useful information about painting your floor and dealing with other colors and projects.
