So far we’ve painted the counters to look like marble, added a farmhouse sink, tile backsplash, and now we’ve finished phase one of the cabinets!

Kitchen Cabinet Colors That Feel Fresh

Painting the cabinets was one of the most daunting tasks on the list, but honestly, while it took a lot of time and work, it wasn’t too difficult!

I have a lot of cabinets in my kitchen, so I split the job into 4 sections, which automatically made it more manageable.

And this time I’m using Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel to paint my cabinets. And let me tell you, this is the best cabinet paint I’ve ever used!

First, do your research on the look you want, the materials you want to use, and your current wardrobe.

Tried And True Neutral Paint Colors: From Light To Dark

Take a minute to measure your hardware holes as well. You’ll want to measure from the center of one hole to the center of the next if you have pullers at the moment.

That determined what kind of primer I needed to use, and the hardware measurements helped me keep the same size or fill my holes and find a new one.

This is as easy as it sounds! Simply remove all of your cabinet hardware, remove your cabinet doors from their hinges, and remove the hinges from the cabinets.

Pay attention to where the cabinet door and drawer are, and the same goes for the hinges! This will make assembly much easier. You may notice which hinge is at the top and which is at the bottom. That way you don’t have to adjust as much when you reinstall.

White Paint & How To Pick It — House Of Nomad

I wrote on painter’s tape to say which door it belonged to and stored the labeled skirts in plastic bags and indicated the closet. As soon as the door was painted or primed, I taped the line where it would dry. This has helped me keep everything!

If you plan to buy a different size of hardware for your doors and drawers, that’s where you’ll fill the hardware holes with a piece of plastic.

I skip this step for my cabinets. They had no covers, were in good condition and had no paint or stains so I left them as is.

I tried a painted door first to make sure it would work! If you’re thinking of skipping this step, I recommend trying a door first!

It is not necessary to completely remove the finish. Just provide your initial something to connect with this step.

Once you’ve filled the hardware holes, be sure to sand them down with wood.

Once your doors and drawers are cut, it’s time to prime them! The printer I used is made for sticking to wood and other materials.

I used my foam rollers and brushes for this step, but you can use a spray bottle if you prefer. Give it your all to paint a good coat of primer.

For the cabinet frame I used a brush and roller to apply the paint. This polish applied so smoothly, even with a brush and roller. I need a total of 2 layers for my boxes.

I would apply the paint with the brush and then spread it with the roller to minimize the brush strokes. And the finish I achieved with Sherwin Williams Emerald Trim Urethane Enamel is perfect.

Not to mention… the color (SW Pure White 7005) is my favorite white cabinetry and it worked really well in our kitchen. It is a bright neutral white.

In the most professional way, I put the doors and drawers in cans of paint to dip horizontally and it turned out really well. I started with the back pieces, then laid them flat on pieces of scrap wood to dry to lift them off the floor.

Since it’s winter, I’ve been letting mine dry out in my basement to control the temperature and keep the debris out in the garage.

Once they were completely dry, I moved on to the fronts. I sprayed a thicker coat on the fronts and brushed on all sides to give a nice smooth finish in this step.

I recommend a total of 2 coats for cabinets, but I went really heavy on my first coat and was so in love with the coverage and finish that I’ll stop there for now.

I know I can always add a second layer if I feel I need it! Have I mentioned that I am so impressed with the coverage of this polish? They said I needed fewer coats, and they were right.

Inspiring Color Palettes For Your Kitchen

This was probably because I changed my wardrobes from cream to white! If your cabinets are a different color or a darker wood, you will definitely need more than one coat.

Leave to dry (still raised so the edges don’t touch the floor). Place them horizontally so the paint doesn’t drip or float while it dries.

When you have 2 layers (or as many layers as you need) and they look the way you want them, let them dry completely and then move on to the next step.

By the way, I don’t add layers because of the durability of the paint I use! It is highly durable, yellow and stain resistant and perfect for frequently cleaned areas such as kitchen cabinets.

Now it’s time to add your hardware! If you’re using the same hardware or hardware of the same size, this is easy. Screw them!

If you’re resizing, grab one of these hardware templates to help you determine where to drill the holes.

Trust me, they make your life a lot easier! Grab your drill and drill and drill holes for your new hardware. Then assemble!

For your cabinet drawer faces, you will probably need to reattach them to the frame before adding your hardware.

Adjust your hinges if necessary. If you have them arranged for each door, this should be the minimum.

This week we are painting more oak cabinets in Sherwin Williams Dover White (6385)! I’m so excited to show everyone how they turned out. It looks amazing in this kitchen.

The LRV or Light Reflectance Value of Sherwin Williams Dover White is 83. It’s a great choice if you want to really brighten up a room and make it cozy and bright, because it really absorbs light.

Bayberry Kitchen Finishes: Paint, Hardware, And Trim

LRVs are useful for estimating how much a color will appear in different lighting environments. The bigger it is, the more reflective and shiny the paint will be; conversely, lower numbers mean colors won’t show up well in low light.

LRV can help you find the whites that work best with your room decor, so you won’t be disappointed if your favorite white doesn’t get the results you want!

Dover White is a neutral color with warm undertones. Depending on the orientation of the room, sometimes a slight yellow color may appear.

Design Trend: Green Kitchen Cabinets

When it comes to painting Dover White kitchen cabinets, people often wonder what color to paint the walls. You may have heard that you should use a shade lighter than your cabinet and wall color for trim. This is because bright colors create the illusion of space and make rooms look bigger.

It goes very well with any blue, green or yellow color. If you’re looking for a quieter option, I’d also recommend pairing it with Sherwin Williams Sea Salt.

If you want something crisp and clean with a touch of warmth to enhance your kitchen space, while feeling neutral, this is the perfect choice!
