Stain To Match Ikea Black Brown

Stain To Match Ikea Black Brown – Our apartment is mostly furnished with ikea furniture. We have a bunch of things we bought with our wedding money and the rest are things we had before we moved in together. We really like dark brown, so most of our stuff has this finish. However, we were also cut one day by ari which was in the color of plain unfinished wood.

Since we needed storage for all our beautiful gifts after we got married, we got a china cabinet and a small cabinet to hold my candles. The cut block didn’t look good next to all the brown and black, so we decided to stain it. It is very easy to do because it is already done.

Step 1: Very light sanding to ensure stain penetration (and removing previous stains, we fed from here)

Step 2: Dirt! We used General Finish Gel Stain in Java. We only need one pint for two coats. It is important to let it dry overnight between coats. Apply the foam using a brush.

Step 3: Varnish. After letting the stain dry for a couple of days, we finished with Minwax Fast Dying Polyurethane. Since we were using it for a buffet we did one coat and then a second coat on top. Also, apply the foam using a brush.

Look how well it goes with a really dark brown! You can just tell the difference! My only comment for those interested in doing a dark brown stain is that it really comes off with too much color. The wood grain below doesn’t show as much as I would like. Overall, I think it’s a good one today. Ikea used to sell it in the same color but they discontinued it. Anyone trying to attach ikea furniture? This simple furniture repair system makes it easy to fix furniture damage and dents in no time, and it matches IKEA paint colors! It’s an IKEA lover’s dream!

If you’ve read my blog for any length of time, you know that I’m an avid lover of IKEA furniture. In fact, 90% of my home office furniture is from Ikea, including this popular IKEA Malm hack and my IKEA desk hack. Our dining room chairs are from IKEA. The table and chairs in my Avery room are from IKEA. All the pieces that make up these “constructions” in my Atli room are from IKEA (PS: you can read the secret to painting IKEA laminate furniture in this post).

Seriously, I could go on. And while I’m always impressed with the quality of IKEA pieces, the bottom line is that we’ve had some pieces for so long that they’ve had some dents along the way, which I fully expect (with any furniture, for the record). And while I was happy to discover the IKEA furniture paint trick a long time ago, I never had a better way to fix those stains and dents, until now 🙂

I have had the honor of being a brand ambassador for Mohawk Consumer Products for quite some time and am a huge fan of all the Mohawk products I have tried. But when Mohawk told me they released a 3 in 1 repair stick in colors created to match common IKEA furniture colors, I wanted to receive them (and I have, but we’re so far away, seriously, Mohawk is full of the nicest people you’ll ever meet). Not to mention, I couldn’t wait to try the Mohawk 3 in 1 Repair Sticks! I have already used them several times, but today I finally decided to document the process of repairing the IKEA Galant shelves in my office. They are the usual IKEA “dark-brown” color. Once upon a time, I thought it would be a good idea to hang curtains over shelves to hide the curtain rods and above. But in the end, I hated how it turned out, so I removed the rod and hardware, leaving big old, ugly holes in the top corners of the shelves where the screws went. I fixed the holes in minutes and got a perfect color match. Read on to find out how I did it.

If you prefer video tutorials, you can watch one of the official Mohawk 3 in 1 repair stick demonstrations below as I repair a black IKEA office chair below. But there is also a written version of this DIY furniture repair tutorial for those who prefer written instructions and step-by-step photos.

1) First, use the built-in leveler cap to go over the damaged area of your furniture to remove any surface damage.

2) Then shake your 3 in 1 Repair Stick for about 60 seconds to blend the color. Next, press the tip of the marker onto the paper towel until the color covers the entire tip of the marker.

3) Use a paint marker to replace the color lost due to the damage you are repairing.

4) Then use a filler stick to fill any holes, dents or holes. Hold it at a 45 degree angle and press firmly while rubbing the filler stick back and forth over the damaged area. Continue scrubbing until full coverage is achieved. Make sure the blanks are completely filled. I recommend erring on the side of overfilling 🙂

That’s it! I told you this furniture arrangement was easy! But it’s not really good. The best part is that with Mohawk’s 3 in 1 repair stick you can completely match the IKEA paint or stain on your piece, something I couldn’t achieve before this product came out. 5 minute coverage with perfect color. I call this a DIY win without a doubt! Check before and after.

It’s definitely easier on the eyes now that all the damage I did to my libraries has been fixed 🙂

Your home should make you happy. So I aim to help everyone create a home they love, regardless of their budget. I’ll share possible DIY projects, design tips (totally doable), colorful decorations, and more. I wanted to add crown molding to the Ikea Billy bookcase, so I scoured the internet for the answer to a color stain to match the black. – brown color, but then I decided to try my formula and see if it works. We keep our crystal on Billy’s bookshelf in our dining room. This is the best before shot I could find:

You can see it here on the left side of the dining room. It is very clear. This picture is before I get the second gate. We are bad Ikea shoppers, people! Coincidentally, we got a white door and a dark brown door. We actually went back to Ikea live because we bought the wrong color once and the wrong style another time.

So I bought a cheap 2 3/4″ crown molding from ACE Hardware. I wanted to improve it a bit.

After installing it, I had to attach it. I tried Minwax in Jacobean, a dark brown stain. I did two coats, but it wasn’t dark enough. It was browner than the color of the library.

So I may have done something stupid because I’m not sure if you’re supposed to mix stain and paint, but I rubbed on a coat of Rustoleum Cabinet Transformations Bond in the Tudor color (dark brown with purple undertones). This stuff is paint, but it feels like a gel stain. I used a small foam brush.

Then it wasn’t dark enough, so I used Rustoleum Cabinet Transformations Bond Coat in Black and brushed it on with a foam brush.

I am very proud of it! It looks like a black dot, not like a painting. It turned out like this (some photos are with flash, some are not):
