Plastics are mainly derived from oil and gas, which are non-renewable resources. These wells are irreplaceable and will eventually run out. Our goal is that by 2030, all plastics used in our products will be from renewable or recycled materials. Renewable plastics are made from materials such as vegetable oil, corn, wheat germ and sugarcane. Recycled plastic allows us to give new life to non-biodegradable products like PET bottles that would otherwise end up in landfills. Using renewable sources also reduces our dependence on oil as a raw material. Currently, more than 40% of our plastic products come from recycled and renewable sources, and we aim to reach 100%. As we add recycled and recyclable products to our offerings, we hope to inspire other companies to do the same.

I also outfitted the 13x13x15 inch cubes with all kinds of shelves, baskets, bins, and other cool accessories to make them as compact and functional as possible. Here are a few sample photos of similar units in our last 4 homes!
One of my favorite things about the IKEA Kallax is that the cube size is very generous at 13 inches wide x 13 inches high x 15 inches deep. Obviously, anything made by IKEA specifically for Kallax will fit perfectly, but I also find that many other IKEA baskets, containers, crates and bags are also suitable.
NOTE: IKEA Kallax is the “new” updated version of IKEA Expedit. Although the frame of the Kallax module is slightly smaller and has a more compact appearance, the internal cube size is the same as the Expedit. So, any Expedit product is also compatible with Kallax.
