“Linda and I built a home in Florida in 2002 after selling our home in the Catskill Mountains in New York. In 2012, we decided to return to the Catskill Mountains for the holidays and realized that even though we loved Florida, we missed the mountains. When we started exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina (similar to the Catskills), we discovered a beautiful mountain community in western North Carolina. I didn’t know much about log homes, so I asked the Log Homes Council for information. So the information began coming into our inbox from some log companies. Then we started getting excited and serious about building a log home for our mountain getaway. We found a builder, Steve Wallin of Custom Homes of Asheville. We looked at several log home companies, including Honest Abe Log Homes Based on Steve’s recommendation and the packet we received from Honest Abe agent Darlene Dawson of Bear’s Den Log Homes, we contacted Darlene. Right from the start we felt comfortable with both Darlene and Steve on the phone. While visiting the mountain community known as Grandview Peaks to make a decision and purchase a lot, we meet Steve and Darlene as well as another builder. After meeting everyone and seeing their work, my wife Linda and I felt very comfortable with Darlene and Steve and signed the contract the next day.
Darlene and Steve made a great team and built our beautiful log home. From the first day of planning the design to the last nail, the two of them stayed together and worked out every detail necessary to build our home. We have received many compliments from other homeowners, builders and friends about the beautiful log home we now have.
