So I’m excited to dig out my spray paint to show you my favorite gold color.

The color of gold varies a ton. While doing this experiment I tried quite a few colors and the gold color completely blew me away with its color variation.

I passed this test with 7 colors of gold spray paint, all readily available at the hardware store and each with its own unique look!

I picked up these spray paints at Lowes or Home Depot. I painted this pattern of wooden circles.

To make this test as fair as possible, I painted all the colors at the same time.

How To Spray Paint

Spray paint comes in a variety of colors from matte to glossy, which determines how glossy or matte the finish is.

All these colors come in a variety of colors, so be careful when buying one to get the shine you want.

There is no right or wrong, but glossy paint will show more lines, dents or scratches than matte gold paint.

Gold glitter paint is a more solid color (sometimes called burnished gold paint), while metallic glitter paint contains pieces of mica, almost like mica.

Metallic paint is great when painting metal, glass, or anything you want to shine and sparkle.

For a radiant glow, choose a shimmery gold color with a shimmery finish. Look for the keyword METALLIC to indicate that the label may be shiny.

I don’t recommend putting a clear coat on top of gold spray paint if you want it to shine. A clear top coat can make the look look dark and boring!

I believe from the name that this painting is meant to imitate gold medal coins. And it’s true!

This warm golden color is almost orange in color. It’s definitely the best fake gold, but it’s also way better for Halloween costumes or where you want a really bright gold.

Cheers is a completely different gold color from ColorShot! It is very light with an almost silvery quality. It’s as readable as rose gold when paired with the right accents.

I love the coverage that Colorshot paints give (they’re the best in my opinion) and I find the thinner cans easier to work with.

This is a great option if you are looking for a rose gold color option.

It has a lot of silver shimmer which makes it really shiny and gives a metallic look.

This is another nice medium golden color. However, it’s not quite as vibrant a gold and is a more muted color.

It has a lot of silver in it – not shimmery, but a light silver pigment. It works to give a metallic finish.

This color has light coverage, so be prepared to apply additional layers or shake the can long enough to make sure all the pigments are well mixed.

In good light, as it is painted on wood, it is almost a golden oak color.

This is a good choice if you like deep brass and a matte finish or dark gold.

Do you want bling bling? That’s it! It’s a really shiny gold and metallic paint color. It stereotypically surrounds gold.

It’s a very subtle, muted, almost golden color. It is very light brown and not yellow or orange in color.

This color definitely has flecks of silver, but no shimmer. Neither bright nor bright.

There are actually more than four brands of gold spray paint, but this includes the three main brands of spray paint and a bonus brand that got my hands on the gold by painting a hanger in a Greta shadow box. Update: All of these tags are under $7. You should also know that I have been eyeing this project for a week.

I gave each a cup of friend and during the experiment the two became inseparable, or at least I could label the bulbs by their color. I’ve used Design Master (picked up at Michael’s), Krylon, Rustoleum and Valspar – the ones that blew up on me a long time ago.

Who do you give the first impression of a rose? Ha! I personally am a new fan of Design Master. It has a slight orange/pink sheen. But let’s take a closer look at them. For me, these four are divided into two parts: bronze/gold and aluminum/brass. The most brassy gold is definitely the master of design, and the rustoleum is a close second.

Krylon and Valspar appear to be all copper for “gold” applications. However, I have used them since I had them. I know that now. That’s it. I also noticed that Krylon went for the worst. While all other finishes look smooth and flawless, Krylon has several issues. It could be human error – sure. But three out of four are almost perfect. hmm
