Valspar Wood Paint Colour Chart – Wellspar Paint is owned by Sherwin Williams, which is the largest paint manufacturer in the world. Valspar has a full range of colors to meet the needs of everyone from interior decorators and decorators to those on a budget.

Valspar is also known for being very good at matching colors. To say that their color range is wide would be an understatement! Valspar has about 1,200,000 colors!!!!

I will be using this blog to give you my brutally honest opinion, as a decorator, on all Valspar products available. This is my Valspar paint review and guide. I hope you find it useful.

Latex Satin Porch, Floor & Patio Paint

I thought I would start at the low end of the product scale and work my way up. Valspar Simplicity is a very affordable matte emulsion with very few polymer binders, similar to solid matte. The opacity is low and several coats of this paint may be necessary to properly cover the wall. The simplicity of Valspar is also not very durable and the finish can be very complex. Flash and framing photos can be a nightmare when using bright colors. Plus, you can literally wipe the paint off the wall, even after it’s completely dry.

This old cliché comes up when buying paint: “You get what you pay for.” In this case, it is correct. Valspar plain is a very poor quality paint and should be avoided at all costs.

This is an excellent product!! The Valspar V500 is a big step up from the Valspar Simplicity. V500 is a durable emulsion available in clay or silk. You will use this color for interior walls and ceilings and the finish is good. Transparency is non-existent in certain colors and a nightmare in reds and blues. Avoid using Valspar V500 on bright colors or you may need to apply additional coats. Other than that, it’s a good attraction.

Here you are!! Valspar V700 is a premium durable product available in matte, medium gloss and silk. I know it’s expensive, but the end result is great. Transparency is excellent, except for the reds and blues which are terrible. Many decorators I know have had trouble with bold colors, which you wouldn’t expect considering the price of this color.

Interior Wood & Metal Paint

I still like the V700. It’s not as durable as some other durable carpet products, but it will hold up to kitchen air conditioning or take a beating in a high-traffic area. This color is very popular with homeowners who don’t mind paying a little more as long as they get quality in return.

Valspar Trade Emulsion is again a step up in price and quality. Available in matte, medium gloss and silk. These products are easy to apply, leave excellent transparency and a good finish. Valspar’s line of business was developed for professional decorators. The general opinion about them is positive.

However, most professional decorators do not use the Valspar trade, so there is clearly a problem. For me, it comes down to two parts. First, Valspar is fully associated with specialists, so it cannot meet our needs.

Second, Valspar trades price for quality. Most decorators will use a Valspar trade, but we can spend the same money at a Johnstone trade, a trade place like The Paint Shed and get better performing products.

Conventional mat is sometimes used as a false coating over new plaster, or even as a top coat, because it allows the plaster to breathe. Valspar Contract Matte is another great product in my opinion. It doesn’t seem to rub as much as other mats I’ve used, which means the Valspar Contract carpet leaves a nice finish. It is also easy to use and the transparency is very good. I’ve seen posts on a UK decorators forum of people having problems with Valspar Contract Matt starting due to poor adhesion. I have used this color on many occasions and never had a problem.

Valspar Trade Architectural Paint is another great product. It is a water-based paint used for exterior architectural work. The transparency and ease of use are out of this world! I like to spray this product on, but it works just as well when applied with a brush or roller.

It is a completely water-based product that is used for interior wood and metal surfaces. Available in white or any tinted color. You will need a separate primer if you plan to use Valspar Trade Eggshell on problem surfaces such as old oil-based gloss or melamine.

Valspar Trade Eggshell is an amazing product. Transparency is not good. However, the ease of use and overall finish are excellent. Brush marks seem to disappear. Another great quality is color retention, which is better than other water-based eggshell products. I recommend this color though. Full review here.

I thought I’d mention Valspar Glitter because it’s such a fun product. Available in gold or silver, just add it to your paint before you start. There is one packet of glitter per liter of colour. Just add it to your paint for your final coat and it adds some sparkle!! Perfect for a closet or a girl’s bedroom. A glossy wall can be a great feature and is something I’ve been asked to do many times.

This is probably my favorite gray in the Valspar range. Notre Dame is the perfect depth – not too light, not too dark and with very few obvious undertones, it’s just something smooth and soft.
