The first job to do is to remove the old fixture. As you can see it was in place when we painted the walls.
The next step is to remove the outlet box. Properly hung lamps have some type of socket box attached to the cabinet frame. It can be easily removed by simply unscrewing the screws securing it to the wall stud.
I saved the box for later. I made sure to pull the Romex wire completely out of the wall.

To mark the old holes in the drywall I used a circle cut for the new holes to caulk the old ones.

I took the picture while the paint was still a little wet. That explains the difference in colors. You might also notice that the power outlets on the right side look a bit odd. Yes, I used a square box and turned the circles on. The studs I want to install are on the sides of the holes. not directly behind So I came up with the idea of using a deep box and installing it on the side instead of the back of the box. it’s not perfect But it works so well that when the light is installed, no one will know.
