There is no shortage of light gray paint colors from any number of brands, but boy can it be hard to find the right dark gray paint color.

Some dark charcoal gray colors so it’s even more important that you do your research. So today we’re going to take an up close and personal look at this bad boy – Benjamin Moore Amherst Green.

What color is Benjamin Moore Amherst Gray? Is it hot or cold? Is it really a neutral green?
Believe it or not, Amherst Green is actually a very slightly warm gray, and while it can look very neutral in some lights, it actually has a lovely undertone (which we’ll get to shortly).
If you have southern light shining on your wall or exterior, Amherst Gray can be a bit warm, going beyond the neutral gray end of things. However, if you have a north wall or other flat light, you can see that it is very good back in its green base.
Amherst Gray has an LRV of 17.12, which puts it on the medium dark end of things. While dark colors look black in some lights, Amherst generally has depth unless you have an exceptionally dark room.

Amherst Gray has a light green shade. However, like many greens, given the right environment and exposure, it can leave it, but sometimes blue or purple will take over.
As with any paint color, I highly recommend using SAMPLIZE. Samples is a peel and stick color swatch that you can easily move around your room for less than half the price of traditional sample containers – and it’s delivered to your door!

Edgecomb Gray is also green and when next to Classic Grey, you can see it looks a little more beige. While the Horizon, shown below the yellow of this color, is a soft blue-grey.
I have about 6-8 shades of white that are my best whites for trim and ceilings. You don’t need all the thousands of whites you need to get it right, and you certainly don’t need to mix two different whites or use only a few percent of color pigments to get it right. The correct white is out.
When people try to get fancy and create their “own color”, it really means that they don’t really understand color.
