Blue can be a great choice to pair with your red brick. Red is not associated with the traditional color wheel, but these two colors only work when placed together. Try opting for dark blue instead of royal or azure. A dark blue house with red brick and white trim is a beautiful combination.

Green and red go together like holly and mulberry. There are different shades of green for your siding color that will complement your brick.

Sage is a gray green that looks, you guessed it, the color of dried sage leaves. Light and dark sage shades go well with red brick, and again, cream trim can be a great accent.

A dark blue-green, not a light blue, will help your brick stand out because the warm shade of the brick contrasts with its cool color. Black shutters and white details go well with this teal color along with gray roof shingles.

Many beiges, from dark browns to light tans, complement red brick because they both have warm undertones. Black shutters can sharpen the look and really make your windows stand out.

When considering what color siding to pair with your red brick, there are a few other design elements to consider before you make your choice.

Color plays an important role in the style of your home. Do you have a colonial style home? White siding is the best option for you. Modern or contemporary? Black complements your design style well. Victorian? Muted colors are your friend. Be sure to research your home’s architectural style before falling in love with mismatched colors.

It only took me 20 minutes to come up with the perfect title for this post 🤔 – a title that captures the amazing color contrast of our new dark paint on the exterior of our house. I’m not quite sure about the title.

It is true. What I do know is that after all the research on red brick colors, after all the little testing sessions around our house, this dark blue custom color my wife and I created is definitely the best. If you have a similar red brick exterior and want to update your home, these color(s) may be what will take your home to a whole new level.

When we moved in, it was painted maroon with creamy ivory trim, which really washed out the whole Cape Cod style of our new home. I guess it’s nice and matches the brick, but it just didn’t work and it looks like the age of the house. It almost makes me feel like dust 🤧. Honestly, it was boring and very predictable.

The dark sage green door matched, but again looking at the front door felt old and dusty. As you can see below, even our dog, Buddy, wanted out 😆.

A year or so later, we hired a crew to paint the house a pleasing blue (make sure you research lots of sources and get lots of estimates). Did I find the right color? Oh no. It grew on us and this bluebell was definitely an upgrade from boring sage. Once we replaced the traditional shutters with our stained cedar shutters, I began to appreciate the color blue better. It was like this for almost 10 years. You may notice that the updated garage doors match the shutters and everything flows well

Unfortunately, the entrance door still doesn’t look right 🤔. Even after replacing the old brick stairs with beautiful DIY mahogany wood stairs, I still didn’t feel like this front door had reached its full potential. We even considered replacing it entirely, but this old door is so sturdy that it doesn’t seem like the right choice. Especially considering high quality doors are expensive. Maybe one day, but wait until you see how the final colors make our old doors POP now…

Pow! Welcome to our home. See how this rich dark blue color brightens our front door. So bright you could catch a rainbow 🌈…

Here are more photos from last fall, right after the painters finished, to show you how the dark blue brings out the cool brick tones and shapes our house against the bright white forest/lake backdrop. The difference is truly shocking, especially in individuals.

I especially like how the cedar shakes look with this dark blue. You may want to note that using a semi-gloss on cedar shakes makes them pop rather than masking their unique pattern. The picture above and below really show me why I think our unique combination of custom colors is “

So tell me. Can you see the blue in the brick? This was my main reason for this color. I only knew it would work because the brick has almost the same shade of blue.

When the painters finished all the patching and prep, which was a lot and seemed to take days and days, they asked me to come out and make sure the color was right. I almost had a panic attack in my lounge in my pajamas, but I just said, “Oh, sure!
