Best Way To Paint Kitchen Cabinets Without Sanding
It’s best to skip the sanding step if you’re transitioning from a freshly painted surface to another, or if you’re painting raw wood cabinets that aren’t stained.
How To Paint Kitchen Cabinets Step By Step
If the cabinet is damaged or discolored or has a lot of shine, or if it has shiny materials or paint, you may need to sand it down a bit so that the new paint will blend in well. But if the door is smooth (non-slippery) to the touch, you can skip the sanding step, as long as you’re a little prepared!
If you don’t want to sand before you start, use mineral spirits and a sponge regularly to clean and slightly disturb the surface of the cabinet. It doesn’t open up the woodwork like a spray gun, but it does provide an extra surface for the primer to stick.
Start with a good start. You will need this large color to capture the shape of the cabinet. Primer helps it stay there and covers old stains and dark colors – useful if you go from dark to dark.
Make sure the primer is designed for use on cabinets (not plaster walls). Look for a formula with a “bonding primer” designed for hard-to-give areas.
How To Paint Laminate Cabinets
The better paint you buy, the better the results will be. In the kitchen, you also want a hard-working paint that can withstand the heat (and humidity) of your daily activities. Look for a formula with high pigment titanium dioxide, not cheap calcium carbonate.

The actual painting isn’t bad, but I don’t like painting cabinets anymore. It’s a lot of work, but I’ve been doing it (or using drugs) because I think it’s the only way to ensure that the finish sticks to the cabinet. I don’t want to take shortcuts if it means the results are not sustainable, good job. When we were planning our rental house, however, I decided to try an alternative to traditional kitchen cabinets and I’m very happy with the results.

The oak cabinets in our rental house looked cheap and familiar at first, and they brought out the ugly yellow color of the counters. We didn’t have enough money to replace the cabinets or counters, but I was sure that something needed to be replaced before we listed the place. Luckily, I found a green semigloss paint in the clearance section at Lowes for only $9.00 and I knew it was a great color. I wanted to lighten up the counter and match the dark green wood that I installed as well. This style is very attractive to all and is an economical way to completely change the kitchen.

If you are planning to paint the cabinets, you can choose a semi-gloss paint. You want a semi-gloss or gloss to ensure that you can easily clean and wipe the cabinets after they get dirty with grease and common kitchen dirt. You’ll also need a secret tool for sand-free painting: Zinsser’s BIN Primer. This sticks to everything and dries very slowly (yes, over 30 minutes). After cleaning, allow the cabinets to dry completely before painting.
Use good cleaners like pine sol and degreaser to make sure the paint adheres to the cabinet.
You should also remove the cabinet doors and drawers to make painting easier. I started to remove them with a screwdriver but quickly switched to a drill, which made the process go faster. I also left the hinges and hardware inside the cabinet so they wouldn’t get lost. So, all you have to do is connect all the doors and drawers with the drapes, and you’re ready to paint.
How To Repaint Painted Cabinets (our Green Kitchen Cabinets)
As with most painting projects, the key to a good finish is to use several light coats, and I like to use a venetian roller to paint most of the cabinetry. You should also use Zinsser BIN primer as your first two coats to make sure the paint adheres to the cabinet. BIN Primer is very thin and smells great. I was able to avoid a mask this time because the windows were down and there was plenty of ventilation, but you may need to wear a mask when using this model. The good news is that BIN primer dries quickly. After you finish painting the first coat, you will be able to paint the second coat immediately.
Again, you want to apply light, even to your shirt. You can use a high quality or natural brush to cut, but try to dry the bristles so that there are no brush marks. Use a roller on most designs to ensure a professional finish. If you take a picture, wrap it in a plastic bag and put it in a cool place (refrigerator if possible) to prevent it from drying out. You can also easily clean the brushes and dispose of them with ammonia (it stinks but it works like magic).
The second coat of primer should be the same, but maybe only 80-90%. If there is no leakage, you should be ready to add a semigloss topcoat.
When the first coat is dry, you can start with the second coat. Some people like to sand between coats, but I don’t think you should as long as you keep the first coat light and streak free. You can see the specks of dry sand when you see them.
Filling Wood Grain Before Painting Oak Cabinets • Craving Some Creativity
Many people skip the next step before applying semigloss, but I think this makes all the difference. If you want a complete look, you need to close the gap of the cabinet between the trim and the door. The difference makes the door more flexible and flexible. I use DAP ALEX in white color. You can glue a thin bead on the door and trim area. Next, dip your finger in the water and run it around the edges, making sure to remove any contamination that may have spread around the edges.
