Silver Sage Benjamin Moore Paint – Our projects always go exactly as planned. Or we can tweak it until it works. Sometimes it’s a complete failure before it actually starts. Dead in the water. Well, this is one of those times. We still have a lot of work to do in the living room, kitchen, and office before painting, but I thought I’d start by testing out my favorite. You know, the one I mentally painted everywhere? My touch, so to speak. I always thought Restoration Hardware’s Silver Sage would look good.
After using many RH colors in our first home, I fell in love with their beautiful yet muted colors. Silver Sage is a beautiful blue with just enough gray to keep you calm. Then I discovered something shocking. Well, it’s not surprising, but it’s a discovery nonetheless. RH’s Silver Sage and Behr’s Silver Sage were almost identical.

So I thought I’d give it a try. I purchased a Behr paint sample and plan to test it on the walls and use it on another project. Since I have the patience of a two-year-old, I went in, prepared things, grabbed a brush and made two samples. One in the living room, one behind the refrigerator in my office. I waited for it to dry. And then I did another amazing thing. This one actually surprised me. The color looked great in my sunny, south-facing office.
Blue Gray Paint Swatches
Eeeek. When Ben got home from work, the first thing I asked him was what he thought of the color of the office. He said he liked it. I asked him to look at the doorbell in the room and he replied, “It’s so bright it hurts my eyes.” Well, it was so bad. And here’s the kicker: he couldn’t believe they were the same color.
Based on both sides (with the same edit), I don’t think anyone can do this. It’s a shame because now I have to find a new one that looks good in both the bright office and the dark family room.
After reading my swatch books from Glidden, Dutch Boy, Martha Stewart, and Ben Moore, I narrowed my selection down to four colors. So here are my new picks, all from Ben Moore. 1. Sea glass, which looks brighter because of Silver Sage. 2. Duxbury Grey, much darker and greener. 3. Iced Marble and Greyhound, more blue and less green. 4. Heather Grey, appears to be a black and green/gray version of Silver Sage. And my current front, without the dark shadow. I also thought about using Silver Sage, but softening it in the room with a gray wash. But this seems very difficult and may not update the areas further down the line. Ah, the decisions.
I’ve chosen colors I don’t like before, but none of them are off. Something I used to be sure of. What can you say? Do you have a favorite muted green/blue? What is the worst color you chose?
