I saw my vlog get a bit of traction on my little YouTube channel that I wanted to follow on a picture I chose.

I chose the shiplap color – the name for Magnolia Home Paint that gives you a barely-there gray look that’s somewhere between modern white and gray and farmhouse. Right out of the box, it looks white. I thought I was sold a can of white. I thought I was duped like others who said in their reviews that they bought a very expensive white can. I thought I was a fool too. But later I realized that it was not pure white but light brown which I was looking for.

When I read online reviews of shiplap shades, they were few and far between at first. At the time, this paint line was relatively new, so a few small notes got me worried about it.
Just a hashtag search on Instagram and a keyword search on Google for paint resulted in stock photos of the actual walls everyone was putting up in their farmhouse-style homes or kitchens. If it was a Shiplap painting, pictures of the painting obtained with the paint colors from the company’s website were added to the same image digitally along the same wall in the same room:
I didn’t think the company’s stock photos were as good as representations of people like me, but it didn’t help that some people who claim to have used the new paint color in Shiplap and posted on Instagram did too. Used a modified method. Filters or lighting when showing off the finished painted piece; Which is very frustrating for anyone looking for accurate color reproduction.
At some point, I knew I just had to take a chance. In the end, I stuck with shiplap because I relied on sample paint paper I picked up from ACE Hardware. Piece of cake was too dark for me and the pearl cotton was lighter with the gray I wanted but more pale beige than I wanted. I was also very interested in the Panna Cotta and Silos White colors and saw how well it would look with True White doors, trim, and ceilings, but Shiplap beat them.

It wasn’t until the two colors were painted together that I knew for sure that I wasn’t selling an expensive tub of white.
I still like this color. If I had time, I would paint more walls in my house with shiplap paint. I love the look and feel it gives me every morning when I wake up against my white desk, my dresser, and the things hanging on my wall.
For those wondering if everything is perfect, I found a downside in this paint – or paint in general. The matte finish is nice and soothing, but it’s extremely difficult to keep it clean. It holds and removes every dirt or scratch. I’ve never painted with a matte finish paint before. Matt was recommended and selected by the project manager, who previously stated that at one point his only job was as a house painter. Who was I to question that man?

Honestly, I could just write a full review on the packaging of the paint box, it is beautiful! But let me tell you, I am a new fan of this Magnolia home paint line from Kilz because it is just a great product! And in case you haven’t noticed the blog here, I’ve been doing a lot lately!
This paint went on so smoothly, gave such a solid finish and looks great on my guest bedroom walls. I had to use two coats because I was painting in such a dark place, but if it was lighter I think one coat would have been more than enough. I love the white look of Shiplap. It matches perfectly with my dark woods and vintage patinas
