Paint Colors For East Facing Rooms – It may affect your opinion. Natural light varies in color and intensity depending on where it comes from. If the gray that looked good in your old home now looks pink, or the gray you liked looks too purple in the bedroom, it might be because you’re comparing the rooms with different lighting.
In this article, I will show you how natural light affects the color of interior paints (in the northern hemisphere anyway). I also made some suggestions for neutral paint colors that match the lighting of the room. But before we get into the details, let’s consider some important points when choosing interior paint colors…
Paint Colors For East Facing Rooms
Always test the paint color on the area you intend to use it and decorate it! (We send 8″ x 10″ color samples of our recommendations to our virtual color consultation customers.)
The Best Home Decor Paint Colors: Hale Navy
Rooms with north-facing windows receive cool, gray light. Even with lots of windows and lots of sunlight, the color of the light remains on the cool side. This means that cool-toned colors (blue, grey, green and some shades of white) can look cold in a north-facing room. Painting a north-facing room in warm colors or even warm neutrals can combat this cold effect.
Edgecomb Gray HC-173 is a nice creamy gray for homeowners who want more shades of gray without feeling too cool.
Navajo White OC-95 is a light cream color. In a north-facing room, the blue light offsets the yellow in this color scheme, creating a nice balance.
Grant Beige HC-83, a popular color, is a cool tan with a slight gray undertone. It looks good in a well lit north facing room.
Dr Dulux: The Best Shades For North, South, East Or West Facing Rooms
Rooms with south-facing windows are flooded with warm, yellow light during the afternoon. In the morning hours, these rooms can be shadowy, colors look a bit flat. If your south-facing room is too bright in the afternoon, a cool tone or gray color can block out the warm light. The use of warm colors in this space enhances the visual warmth of the room.
Balanced Beige SW 7037 is a beautiful warm tapestry and one of my personal favourites. The combination of gray and brown makes it less boring than traditional gray. Works great in a room with lots of afternoon sunlight from south-facing windows.
Gray Oval OC-52 is a soft, warm gray, not cool. Its color will be a bit dull in a room that doesn’t get a lot of direct sunlight
Belt White OC-9 is a light, creamy gray that is slightly warmer. This color can bring a lot of light and warmth to a space, but can be too neutral in south-facing rooms that don’t get a lot of direct sunlight.

East (and west) facing rooms are more difficult to analyze because the light is less uniform. East-facing rooms have strong, soft light in the morning, which is slightly warmer. As the sun sets, the light in the east-facing rooms brightens, and in the south, the colors appear a little darker. After noon, rooms with east-facing windows will be a little gray and dark. These spaces work best with warm colors. Cooler tones look a little harsher in the afternoon.
Macadamia SW 6142 is a light medium neutral with a golden beige shade that doesn’t fade in the afternoon.
Creamy SW 7012 is one of the few off-whites that will look good in an east-facing room. It warms up the space without being overwhelming.
Techno Gray SW 6170 is a warm gray. This color retains its warmth in the cool afternoon light of an east-facing room with a slight distortion of green.
Best Home Decor Paint Colors: Edgecomb Gray
West-facing rooms have poor mornings. After noon, the light gradually appears warmer and brighter, increasing in intensity throughout the day. West-facing rooms do well with cool and warm colors, but remember that afternoon sun brings out the strength and depth of warm tones.
If you have windows on multiple walls, you’re dealing with a lot of details (yay!) considering which window allows the most unobstructed light. In general, you should pay more attention to exposure in the room. The good news is that you’ll have a little more flexibility with your personal color preference.
A room with a southwest exposure has warm, strong light that becomes more intense after noon, while a room with a northeast exposure receives a cool, gray light during the day. A room with south-east windows has soft, warm light all day long, bright in the morning, a little dark in the afternoon, and the intensity of the afternoon sun is softened by the heat to the east. Northwest-facing rooms are cool and gray during the day, with only a little warm light in the afternoon.

Did you know that the orientation of the windows affects the color of the wall? Here are the best paint colors for east facing rooms!
Selecting The Right White Paint Color Every Time
Choosing paint colors is a difficult task – you need to think about the style and look you want and choose a color swatch in the real space.
The orientation of a room’s windows directly affects how much light the room receives – and how much light it lasts throughout the day.
It is important to understand the direction of the window when choosing paint colors and understand the effects of this direction!
Then pull out the compass (if you don’t have a compass for your phone! Even your maps app will have a compass!)
How Light Affects Colour
Point the compass to the wall you have identified as the most or largest window. Which direction refers to the direction your room is facing!
The sun sets on the eastern horizon, so east-facing rooms will get the sun and the most morning light.
Eastern light means you will have warm, bright light in the morning and cool, dark light in the afternoon.
East-facing rooms will have more sun in the morning and less in the afternoon. Whatever is bright will be bright in the morning. I’ll stick with eggshell paint!
Best Neutral Paint Colors To Sell Your House
East-facing rooms will be bright in the morning and dark in the afternoon. So dark wall colors look really dark in the afternoon. If that’s not what you’re looking for, stick to something bright and shiny!
For example, if you often use your bedroom in the morning (or after dark), choose a color that plays well in the bright, warm morning light.
In the living room, which is used mainly in the afternoon and evening, it may be worthwhile to choose a color in the cold (incomplete) afternoon light.
If the room is used during the day, it should be as neutral as possible. Anything that is too hot in the morning is considered too hot, and too cool in the afternoon.
Decorating Tips And Paint Colours For A North Facing Room?
Stick to white colors without overpainting. If you choose a white wall, be sure to use the same white color in the trim for a softer look – any contrast will draw attention to this afternoon reserve.
For gray, again, choose something that is not silver, but not too warm or gray. Good neutral shade.
I sound like a broken record here, but for a color to look all day in an east-facing room, it needs to be neutral without being overpowering.
