Blue-green mixes work well. And while they’re definitely still working (Forrest Gump-style), I’ve gotten a lot of requests for blue-grey over the past few months.

Why did gray-blue suddenly become one of the popular children? Well, I think psychologically most of us are looking for peace. We miss the colors that make our heart beat slower and help us relax in our homes… where we spend a lot of time these days. Blue gray seems like a magical mixture to go to a happy place (it’s not, you dirty bird). Personally, my lucky blend is a mix of white wine, red wine and boom chica pop, but to each their own.

. Like gray with undertones, blue also likes to flex its color muscles (I wrote more about it here if you’re interested). So even if your blue is UNTONE, it may also have its own shade hidden in deep pockets.

And remember, when it comes to choosing a blue-gray, don’t just choose the one you like, you must also consider the ones that are best with products, displays and finishes in your room, even if they fall flat. A little outside of your personal comfort zone.

Blue gray with green is a cool color, as blue and green are traditionally cool colors, however, green softens the look of blue. It doesn’t make it hot, but it can look more attractive compared to the colder blue combination (it’s eye-opening, though).

Blue-grey with purple tends to look a bit cold, which makes sense because purple is often seen as a cold color. When you add purple to blue (technically you’re adding red, but I like meat and potatoes here), you change your blue, so it’s cooler.

End of the blue-purple stuff. Why? Well, I think that in general blue with a green tint is quite easy to mix with objects and furniture because it has more flexibility compared to blue-purple tones. I have also found that in blue-purple, the purple is very easy to look at, while the green can look more passive when hidden within the blue.

Hands down, my gray/blue FAAAVE mix. The Cliffs of Gibraltar are an amazing chaotic mix of blues and grays with some green in the background. It’s the only color that’s really open to interpretation because some say it’s gray and others clearly see blue. So, it’s up to you to decide how it looks in your eyes!

Stonybrook is definitely a colorful ninja. It’s not that it turns purple, it’s definitely a blue/green mix, but the green can take over or it can go down again, leaving more blue on the table (or on the wall, really…)

Mesh gray is a superior gray from edge to edge. It has a blue tint, and while this tint can only focus on green, it can also be skewed the other way, especially if you have northern lights.

Although I don’t have any pictures of this color yet, Cradle is a nice color with more blue and less gray compared to the others.

Jubilee is one of the best blue-gray-purple shades because the blue is enough for a party and the purple is not too dominant.

Stardew is great. It’s more blue than gray, and while it’s quite flexible, it can only slightly flash green…barely.

If you have a room with northern light and you find the blue-gray shades a bit harsh, try choosing a room with a slightly lighter color, such as Mount Saint Anne. The added saturation/color helps offset the gray light coming through the windows.

Colorado Gray is the most gray-blue color on the page, making it a more dominant blue-gray. And it tends to spit out, not much, but enough to be somewhat noticeable.
