Choosing the right white color for your room is not always easy. Unlike other colors where the true color is obvious when looking at the color chart, white has many undertones and subtle nuances that can make two colors look the same on the color chart when painted on a wall. If so, they look completely different. It can be overwhelming to wade through endless white options to find the perfect match, so I’m sharing eight of my tried and true whites. These are paint colors that I love and that interior designers and homeowners have come back to time and time again.

Convert Sherwin Williams Paint To Benjamin Moore

White Dove is a beautiful warm white that was in our kitchen (pictured below) before we renovated it. Not only is it a beautiful wall color, it’s also a favorite for moldings and cabinets. It has a warm yellow color with gray undertones that make this soft white feel warm and welcoming.

Bus White is probably the most versatile of the whites. Like White Dove, it’s warm toned, but a little lighter and brighter. This is the color I chose to paint most of our home in NC, including our guest room:

Benjamin Moore’s Cloud White is somewhere between White Dove and Simply White in terms of brightness. Here’s what the three swatches looked like when I tried them on in our family room before deciding that cloud white was the winner for this room:

The Best Gray Paint Colors In The Universe

I used Cloud White throughout my family room – table top, walls and trim (matte on walls and satin finish on ceiling). It’s the perfect neutral backdrop for the large art wall surrounding our TV. You can see more photos of this space and its full list of resources.

Decorators White is a fairly pure white, but has a touch of gray that softens it and makes it a great choice for cabinets and fixtures. Here’s a great example of ZDesign’s Bree at home in the kitchen (her cabinets and trim are decorative white) – you can see this gorgeous space.

Decorator’s White can also be a good choice for a wall color if you want the perfect pure white that isn’t too harsh.

Benjamin Moore Colour Of The Year 2020

Chantilly Lace is a beautiful crisp, clean, bright white color that looks like true white. It’s a great choice for contemporary spaces, but can also look great in more traditional homes, like Chelsea’s light and airy living room by Making Home Base, which you’ll see more of.

When planning a major bathroom remodel, I knew I wanted white walls because they are the perfect neutral backdrop. I chose Chantilly lace, which is the right white for the room:

Understanding Sherwin Williams And Kelly Moore Paint Labels

Farrow & Ball’s All White is exactly that – it has no color other than white, creating a soft yet crisp white without the bright white cold blue tint. This is the color I used in our master bedroom remodel on the shiplap walls and trim you’ll see more of.

I painted my youngest daughter’s room with Behr’s White 52 and I absolutely love it! It doesn’t have too many undertones, so it’s not too creamy, not too blue, not too much – just a nice all-white (in her room, we paired it with the Behr patterns). Benjamin Moore Classic Gray {the Best Home Decor Paint Colors}

Do not choose a paint color by looking at the color bar. You have to see how they look in your home! The same white color can look completely different in one house compared to another due to the lighting conditions of the room. I highly recommend purchasing peel and stick samples of the whites you are considering from SameLize. Attach the swatches to the wall of the room to be painted and look at them from different points throughout the day. Test your design solutions on different walls of the room as well. It helps a lot to see what kind of paint color you can expect in your space!

When painting with white, I recommend painting and finishing the baseboards in the same white as the wall, but with a higher gloss. Depending on the room to be painted, I use flat, matte or eggshell paint on the walls and satin or semi-gloss paint on the finish. The higher the gloss, the lighter the paint color, so if you use, for example, matte on the walls and satin on the finish, they will look good together because they are of a similar undertone. However, satin trims appear slightly lighter, so you still get a great contrast between the colors of your wall and the trims.

I usually recommend painting the ceiling the same white you use on the walls (flat or matte is best because it hides roller marks and imperfections). You can also use the same color ceiling paint throughout your home – my favorite is Benjamin Moore Muresco ceiling paint.

It is possible to mix one brand of paint with another brand (for example, ask Sherwin Williams to mix a color that matches a Benjamin Moore paint color). Sometimes the color matching works and sometimes it doesn’t. But to white people…just don’t do it! White paints contain very little pigment, so even a small change can make a big difference in how the color looks when painted on your walls.
