I just bought a 1979 F150 Ranger supercab. It’s a nice old truck; exactly what I was looking for and it has been for a long time. It has some stains, rust spots and even a small hole. But for 31 years in upstate New York… That’s pretty good. The 351 drives like a champ in it. It has more $$ than a donkey farm.
My father and I argued about the color, where to get the cords, etc. I looked at the door and checked the plate. I can’t make head or tail of it. That’s where I was hoping someone here might be. I would like to get rid of the rust and fix it. I’m not restoring it or anything, I just don’t want it to get worse. Thanks for any help anyone can give!

These trucks are hard to determine the color codes but you can take your car to a paint shop and they can scan it and give you the color codes I found this is the easiest way to get an almost perfect match by the way truck oh Let me guess the one you say it trk is what I always did lol good luck hope this helps
The color code is “SM” …. S is 2472 “Brt. Dark Blue Poly” M is 8378 “Wimbledon White”. (I know, this chart just says “White”, it’s “Wimbledon White”, an old favorite. Older lists have the same # in the full name)

Thank you please, I had a smoking deal, almost obscene. It was on craigslist for $3,500. I went to look at it, the guy offered $2,500 (because I had a lot of dollars) and he accepted. We went to withdraw money from the bank. As we pulled out of the driveway a guy ran out and said the radiator had leaked out the front. oh boy… But then the guy said if I paid the agreed amount he would replace the cooler and deliver it to my house!
Fine with me!! It was Friday. A guy called me Saturday afternoon and asked if he could wait until Sunday because he was on his way home and noticed the brakes were a little spongy and “didn’t want to sell junk”. He replaced the rotors and pads in the front. He also wanted to change the rear drum, but I told him to stop. It became a little difficult. And to make matters worse, it only has 58,000km on it!!
Original looking paint (can you tell if it’s been repainted?) with these colors (love them), exterior cab, 8ft bed, 351m, chrome still bright, 58k miles, radiator fix and front plane work done.. . ..and he took the offer dropped from 3500 to 2500?

You can always get a better color match by having the paint shop read the truck’s paint to account for any fading. They could say it hasn’t faded…..if it’s original it spent a lot of time in the dark.
Nice looking truck love the color combination sounds like a good deal on this one is under statement. How much did it cost the guy to fix the truck? and it still takes 1000 less than it was supposed to and it still does everything.
Besides his generosity, the guy was just super friendly, engaged in conversation, etc. A true man of his kind. It actually reminds me of my dad. He owned a septic tank cleaning business ($$$$) and was an avid trucker/car enthusiast. He had three other “toy” trucks that I know of in his shop where this truck was. So it was clearly a pleasure for him. I think he felt sorry for me too because I told him that I had been looking for such a truck for years. I’m glad we met! Thanks Scott!!
