First thing: white paint colors are not white. To understand this, you need to understand LRV.
Agreeable Gray Sherwin Williams Interior Paint Color Palette
A color’s Luminance Value or LRV is a number assigned based on how much light the color emits, with 0 being absolute black and 100 being pure white. The longer the year, the more light is seen.
No white paint on the 100’s LRV. Sherwin Williams High Reflective White (which is one of the brightest whites you can get) is 93. 80 or higher is considered white, and “white” ranges from ~70 -80. So you have to ask yourself how bright (LRV about 90) and how clean (LRV about 80) you want your white to be.
And speaking of “soft” whites, they are less white and often have dyes added to soften bright whites (aka undertones). An “off-white” color has a complementary color to it:
First, you need to think about style. Generally, colors help to create a good look and it goes well with the old space. But cool whites are more blue and fresh. These are simple techniques, but if you know you like a classic or modern look, they’re a good starting point.

Second, you should consider the lighting of the room. North-facing rooms (in the Northern Hemisphere, at least) have bright light, and south-facing rooms have bright light. So, if your room faces north, you should choose a slightly warmer white color to balance the cold climate. This also applies to south facing rooms.
East- or west-facing rooms are difficult because the quality of light in these rooms varies throughout the day, while sunlight enters west-facing rooms in an orange or pink hue. It can also be difficult if the lighting in your home is chosen so that many forested areas or nearby buildings reflect their colors into your home.
Finally, you should test the color of the field. White paints are very important for the color of light, floor and other things in the space… so I always test 2-3 colors before working. It’s worth the effort!
As I said, it’s important to test your color shade in your real space, especially with whites. I don’t have a problem with paint splatters on my walls, but it does bother me sometimes. And with the challenges of getting color samples these days, I’m happy to share the best part.

It is a destination for many interior designers. It has alkaline white (LRV 82) and soft cream. However, unlike many whites, decorations tend to be beige or gray rather than yellow. It creates a beautiful, beautiful space. It has many similarities to Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee.

Our Favorite White Paint Colors — House Sprucing
One of my favorite white paint colors, White Duck is a creamy and soft white. Beige is emphasized in its tones rather than true yellow due to its warm neutrality. With an LRV of 73, it’s perfect for exterior white paint because it doesn’t shine as much in the sun as it would with a higher LRV. Exterior paint colors are, in general, easier to read than interior ones. Like the interior color, it’s darker than you can see below, but it’s soft and rich.
Grayer than Duck White, Beauty White is ideal for soft white walls that don’t burn. The beauty of white is not cold, however, it is simple, and best if you have a light color in the space. For example, in our last house, our living room had only one window facing the red brick house. Most of the light from that window bounces off the neighbor’s house and sends various shades of pink across the room. Outdoor lights provide enough light while keeping rooms from looking pink or purple.
All the bedrooms and bathrooms in my house are Behr Cameo White – I’m not sure I can put it in better words than that! 🙂 My favorite Behr white paint colors are beautiful grays and go well with Carrara marble (one of my favorites). It’s not too cold, though, with LRV 81 appearing soft white.
Very similar to Cameo White, Snowbound is cooler and looks more natural white on walls. With the 83’s LRV, however, it’s simple and elegant, letting the furniture and artwork shine.
Choosing The Best White Paint Colors — Homzie Designs
A list like this wouldn’t be complete without a few honorable mentions. My other Sherwin Williams paint colors are Sherwin-Williams Pure White (SW 7005) and Extra White (SW 7006).
White White, with 84 LRV, is lower than Extra White, with 86 LRV. White White is also a touch warmer. The cabinet is well made with two trim colors, however, it can blend well with your white walls (for example: simple trim, white and alabaster walls) or give a bright contrast (for example, trim some more on gray walls that agree) . If you’re looking for a bright white, SW High Reflective White, Benjamin Moore Simply White, or Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace are all good choices. Only the white is slightly warmer than the other two, but with the 91-93 LRVs, these three are some of the brightest options available.
For Benjamin Moore, White Dove and 85’s LRV’s white paint colors, it’s similar in brightness to SW Pure White but slightly warmer. And Decorator’s White is 84’s LRV (as SW Extra White) and has a cool taste.
