Modern Farmhouse Exterior Paint Colors Sherwin Williams – Exterior painting is a daunting task, and choosing a color is a big commitment. Our farmhouse now needs an exterior paint update and I think choosing the right paint is one of the hardest parts of this job.
Our modern yellow farmhouse with large wraparound porch is charming to say the least. The yellow color fades over time and it’s time to restore the color with a new yellow color or be bold and change it completely.

Popular Sherwin Williams Exterior Paint Colors
We went back and forth on colors and finally decided that we were going to turn our yellow farmhouse into a white farmhouse.
I’ve been researching some of my favorite designs on Pinterest and Instagram for months now. I’m really torn between light gray or true white. Here are some pictures that inspired me on Pinterest of the house style board.
In my research, I learned a lot about LRV (Light Reflectance Value), color, hue, and even how the orientation of your home plays into the colors that appear in your home.
Below is a list of our top contenders for exterior painting, then I’ll show which colors we chose and why.
Best Exterior House Paint Colors 2022 Most Popular Home Color Ideas
Our house is a classic modern farmhouse with skylights and a balcony. The sleek modern farmhouse is bright white with lots of black accents. Personally, I don’t want to get caught up in a very trendy farmhouse look. All my inspiration points to a softer look with less contrast for a better look.
Reducing it really helped me hone my warmer/creamier whites. Scrolling through some of my favorite designers on Instagram, I came back to the beautiful white house of Monika Hibbs. I sent him a message and he happily shared his white exterior color – Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee.
I think I’m already captivated by the name itself. I mean, how can you go wrong with a name like “Swiss Coffee”. When I started researching this color, I quickly realized that it was the creamy white I was looking for. With an LRV of 83.93, it’s far from pure, but it’s still nice and bright. It’s creamy white and looks really off-white. It actually has warmer undertones and picks up yellows in low light. This is good for us because we love our yellow greenhouse.
Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee turned out to be the perfect white coffee for our modern farmhouse. For a little contrast, we chose Benjamin Moore Frostine for the trim and then Benjamin Moore Kendal Charcoal for our front door. Charcoal doors are a nice “pop” in our white farmhouse.

Many of the popular paint colors we see on home exteriors fall into the “natural” realm. This can mean anything from light, bright and airy colors to warm neutrals. The colors of this house evoke a relaxed, peaceful and harmonious atmosphere.
Another big difference we see is the range. High-contrast color combinations are popular, as is the use of mixed materials and textures in home design. In addition, bringing today’s appeal to the classic home style by using unexpected dark colors (especially in warm products) is a strong trend.
Comfort and security, the balance of form and function, and a house with character are what we value today, because the concept of home has become important.

Our Review Of Sherwin Williams’ Urbane Bronze
Not to be confused with the Benjamin Moore color of the same name, Alabaster by Sherwin Williams is a soft, warm white that suits its purpose. This popular neutral shade can be used in many homes, from modern Spanish to traditional brick. Alabaster is soothing and speechless. It is the best addition to many materials, including natural wood, stone, copper and copper earth.
Want a shade of white? Heavy snow is a good choice. It has an LRV of 83, just 1 point higher than alabaster, or close to pure. It’s also a muted off-white, but it has a more creamy red undertone than the beige undertone of alabaster. You don’t want to use it on anything too tan, beige or brown. It combines well with navy colors, darker charcoal gray and clay roofs.
Moving away from pure white brings us to our next Sherwin Williams Color of the Year: Shoji White. This is another warm white. Its LRV of 74 helps you avoid the glare of the divine; however, in a sunny environment it can approach white. The photo above shows that it is protected against snow white, which helps to remove its neutral beige and gray undertones. It’s on the edge of the off-white category, but noticeably lighter than gray. Shoji White is one of our designers’ favorite colors to use with Urbane Bronze (which may or may not be on this list…).
Now let’s do it in reverse. Bright, modern farmhouse design has been essential, and Extra White is clean. This color is aptly named as it has a high LRV of 86.
Attractive And Recommended Farmhouse Exterior Paint Colors For Your Design Update
We like to use Extra White on different textures, along with different colors, like the roof, windows, and lighting in the model above. Are copper gutters good? The door and skylight tops are Passive by Sherwin Williams, a beautiful neutral gray.
We called us at the end of last year, and our leader is ahead of the curve ahead of the end of 2019: we see that beige is back. Accessible Beige is warm, but not yellow…actually gray to gold. Natural wood is warm, earthy and beautiful. It looks great on bricks too!
Another lighter shade for those who don’t like white or white is a light neutral gray. Repose Gray is a beautiful base color available in dark colors, dark brown materials such as dark walnut, and bronze.
This dark gray is a good choice for painting the whole house, as shown in the first example above, or it can be a similar color for a model design, like the pillow above. As darkness falls, iron ore sits on Kendall coal and charcoal (both by Benjamin Moore). It has an LRV of 6, so it’s obviously dark. Its warm tones help it harmonize with materials that have a lot of brown: stone, cladding, brass, copper, and of course, wood.
Exterior Paint Color Ideas For A Beautiful Home
Our next recommended exterior black color, Tricorn Black, is a slightly grayer color than Iron Ore. It’s also darker than Benjamin Moore’s Onyx, another one of our favorites. Its LRV is low 3. This dark color makes the right guide and is a good color for garage door, door, and door.
Urbane Bronze is Sherwin Williams’ 2021 Color of the Year, and for good reason. This rich gray with brown undertones is a favorite in many areas. Its appearance can vary depending on the time of day – it can be more charcoal or more brown. It looks great throughout the house and is our designer’s favorite color palette.
Urbane Bronze is a neutral ground that achieves all the inspiration of nature. Think cedar or lighter walnut and natural stone. Make it commercial with a black metal finish, or a little messy with outdoor furniture. When matched
