When I started looking for paint colors, I knew I wanted white, but I also had white countertops, a white subway tile backsplash, and white appliances. Needless to say, I was very white.
To counteract all the white I first thought of using the gray rest, but when the color comes out it’s dark to name the white cabinet. So I worked with Sherwin Williams to cut the paint until I got exactly what I wanted. But when I pulled out my color SW chip, I discovered that Sherwin Williams had a grayish white called First Star.
Well, the story got a lot of attention because when I started doing my search for the most popular colors of 2021, guess who turned up on the list. That’s right – First Star.
The first star is cold and white with almost equal amounts of red and green, so it is neither hot nor cold. As you can see in the image, this is the softest tone in terms of value, but not white. This is a bit of a contrast to white, which works well in this kitchen where there is already a lot of white.
