Sherwin Williams Shoji White: The Off White Color You’ve Been Looking For!
And since we’re about to pick out fresh white paint for our hallway and stairs from water damage this week, it’s a good time to dive into the paint color decision section for anyone struggling.
If you ever feel confused about the best paint color, here is the best way to choose the right paint color for your home every time. However, this post can be a great starting point for finding the best white color palette for your home.
We love Benjamin Moore Classic Gray in our hallway and stairwell because it’s a neutral chameleon shade that feels light and airy with a warm undertone that can be a little gray or a little beige depending on the light.
Slightly off-white, Benjamin Moore’s Swiss Coffee has just enough yellow undertones to make it a clean, creamy white. Paired with black or dark gray, such as Benjamin Moore’s Wrought Iron, for high contrast, it feels sophisticated and relaxed.

Benjamin Moore White Dove is a bit lighter than Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee, but still creamy enough to feel comfortable. Its soft beige warmth can liven up a room and is perfect for trim and molding. We used it in our bathroom renovation last year to tone down the beige countertops we didn’t love and it worked great!
A soft, creamy white that can be considered close to true white, Sherwin Williams Alabaster has enough warmth to contrast with other bright whites. If you can’t decide between white and pure white, alabaster is the perfect balance. We used it in the master bedroom of our last house and loved it!
Darker than white, Benjamin Moore Linen White is more yellow than others and works best in northern rooms where the colors can be washed out a bit.
The white color is slightly gray, Sherwin Williams Snowbound is cooler than Sherwin Williams Alabaster. It is a great choice for east/west facing rooms, trim, cabinets and exteriors.
The Paint Color Guide
Closer to gray than white, Sherwin Williams Oyster White leans toward slightly cooler tones, but is a chameleon color that can look warm in dark rooms at different times of the day.
Leaning towards the yellow color family, white Sherwin Williams flooring can create a sense of comfort. When paired with more blue/grey, they can look particularly yellow, so use wisely with the other colors in the room.
Sherwin Williams Classic Light Buff paint color, which creates sophistication without being pure white, is a creamy, off-white, slightly sun-kissed color.
Shamelessly plug, but we absolutely love our color Romabio Feather is a light, airy white that straddles the line between warm and cool.

Currently (as of 2022 when this post was published), warm neutral color tones are popular, so white exterior paint colors are considered “in”. Although white never goes out of fashion, because it is an enduring classic.
Flat is mostly used for ceilings, eggshell for walls, satin for walls, trim, doors and cabinets, semi-gloss and gloss for trim, doors and cabinets. However, it all depends on the look you want and there are no rules for paint gloss. But these are general guidelines. Thinking of painting your house white? Whether it’s trim, cabinets, walls, or ceilings, these are the best whites to consider for your home… or at least our favorites.

Half-tone rooms, LRV, rooms facing north or south and many more options… How to choose a girl? Scroll down for just a list of the best white paint colors, or read on for some basic information and guidance on choosing the right color for your space.
First things first: white paint colors aren’t really white. To understand this, one must understand LRV.
The Light Reflectance Value, or LRV, of any paint is a number based on the amount of light the color reflects, with 0 representing pure black and 100 representing pure white. The higher the number, the more light is reflected.
Of course, the LRV of white paint is not 100. Sherwin Williams High Reflective White (which is one of the brightest shades of white you can find) is 93. Anything 80 or higher is considered white, and “white” can be anywhere from ~70 to 80. So you have to ask yourself how bright (LRV close to 90) or soft white (LRV close to 80) you want your white to be.

And when it comes to “soft” whites, the lower the white, the more colors (aka undertones) are added to soften the stark white. Some colors are added to “white” paint:
The first thing to consider is the style. In general, warm whites help create a cozy atmosphere and work well with traditional spaces. Cool whites, on the other hand, can be brighter and fresher. Of course, this is a generalization, but it’s a good place to start if you know you like a more classic or modern vibe.
Secondly, you need to take into account the natural lighting of the room. North-facing rooms (at least in the northern hemisphere) have slightly cooler light, while south-facing rooms have warmer light. So if your room faces north, you might want to choose a slightly warm white color to balance out the cool natural light. And vice versa – for rooms facing south.
East- or west-facing rooms are tricky because the quality of light in these rooms changes during the day, but suffice it to say that sunset light in west-facing rooms is often orange or pink. Getting light into your home can be difficult if it is filtered by a lot of trees or nearby buildings that can reflect their colors into your home.

Finally, you have to experiment with color. White paint is particularly sensitive to the color of the light, floor and other objects in the space…that’s why I always test 2-3 colors before I work. It’s worth the extra effort!
Like I said, it’s really important to test your paint shade in a real space, especially with whites. I’ve never had a problem with paint streaking on the walls, but I understand that it can be inconvenient at times. Since paint swatches are hard to come by these days, I’m happy to share a great alternative.
Sampleize will send you reusable skin and glue sheets made in real colors. This allows you to move the pattern around the room to get different lights. I hope you found this page as helpful as I did!
After years of painting my own home and helping clients paint their homes, they became my whites.
The Best Sherwin Williams Whites: Undertones Explained
This is an option for many interior designers. It is a soft timeless white (LRV 82) with a very subtle finish. However, like many creamy whites, the margins are beige or gray rather than yellow. This creates a beautiful, elegant space that still feels cozy. Benjamin Moore’s Swiss Coffee has a lot in common.
A white shade very similar to alabaster, but with less of a yellow touch (so soft, to be honest, my husband swears it looks the same 😉 ), Silos White is also nice and warm, not too warm in a newer or newer farmhouse. style.
One of my favorite warm white paint colors, White Duck is a creamy and soft white. It still leans towards beige tones rather than yellow, which creates a strong neutral warmth. With an LRV of 73, this is a good choice for white exterior paint colors because they don’t shine as much in sunlight as they would with a higher LRV. Exterior paint colors tend to appear lighter than indoors. As an interior color, it looks darker than what you see below, but is still soft and rich.
More gray than duck white, if you want soft white walls that don’t feel warm, elegant white is a good choice. Beauty White is also not cold, but it is a very light gray and a good choice if colored light enters the space. For example, in our last house, the bedroom had only one window facing the red brick house. Most of the light coming through the window bounced off the house next door and cast it a strange pink color.
